A Diverse workforce offers numerous benefits to business in the UK and beyond. Find out more about Marshall E-Learning Consultancy's Diversity courses here: http://www.marshallacm.co.uk/category/e-learning-products/diversity/ We live in an increasingly diverse society, which is very often reflected in the workplace. It is of course important that we always respond with the appropriate sensitivity to this diversity, and learners in all workplace settings will reflect it in their gender, age, class, sexuality, race, religion, disability and ethnicity. Equality is about eliminating discrimination and prejudice in a society (from a workplace society to the larger aggregate community) where everybody has the same opportunities to progress and achieve their full potential, regardless of their heritage or background. In essence, equality is about treating everybody as if they were the same. Diversity, on the other hand, though sometimes used or understood rather confusingly as a synonymous term to ‘equality’, actually means ‘difference’. Diversity is about recognising individuals’ differences, and placing positive values on those differences within societies and workplace environments. Despite the world becoming so highly diverse, there are still many companies which have not done so, and indeed this can often hinder the value locked within an exclusive culture. Today, promoting diversity is simply required of an organisation. However, although many claim their unwavering support, the reality is actually far less in evidence. A global survey conducted by Deloitte University Press found that only 1 in 5 companies believe that they are truly ‘ready’ to embrace diversity and all of its benefits. Why the massive (80%) short falling? Well, there is a view that diversity compliance is just that – a regulatory box to be ticked. This, unfortunately, simply isn’t good enough to instil the sense of urgency required to make a more meaningful move into a true environment of workplace diversity that is matched by its efforts for equality. What is needed is a better understanding of the benefits that a truly diverse workforce can inject into the value of a company. Online diversity training is one means by which a company can begin to tackle this problem and get to grips with fully understanding what they are missing, from failure to implement diversity measures into their workforce. Indeed, far beyond being simply a tick-box exercise, embracing diversity and utilising individuals’ differences for the overall good of an organisation can make the difference between success and failure in today’s business world, which is now as competitive as it is diverse. An individual’s feeling of being treated equitably is the true measure of a company’s commitment to diversity. This means that as an organisation, you have to communicate and connect with each employee not only as a member of the workforce, but as an individual. Indeed, this realisation can actually be the driving force of a company’s success, when individuals’ unique attributes are put to a use that not only suits the company, but also the employee her/himself. “Not everyone who gets into a business is in the place where they will ultimately be the most successful or happy in their career,” says Stephen Shea of Ernst & Young. “ Sometimes their unique attributes will lead them to be far more successful [which, in turn, equates to the success of the company] in a different part of the business or a different pursuit, and it’s okay to tell them that.” By committing to building a culture of diversity where employees are making the most out their skills and experiences – i.e. their differences – a company will almost invariably find that productivity, morale and indeed success can be optimised to produce the best possible outcomes for all involved. In theory this is a very simple equation, and the only real obstacle in making it a more encompassed reality is in engendering the commitment from organisations to make it so. Diversity in the workplace e-learning courses are the exact tool your company needs to start building towards this success. They will teach you and your workforce not only what it means to accept the concepts of diversity, equality and equal opportunities, but why these things are important, and how their successful integration can move your company beyond mere compliance to the rules, but towards a culture of unlimited inclusion and success. Find out more about Marshall E-Learning Consultancy's Diversity courses here: http://www.marshallacm.co.uk/category/e-learning-products/diversity/

Feeling included and appreciated increases loyalty and feeling of belonging. Language skills pool is increased and propels organization forward either to compete in the International global world or to increase its diverse customer base Help to build synergy in teams and enhances communication skills that brings in new attitudes and processes that profit the whole team Applying the proper diversity& inclusion management strategies does not only save money on litigation expenses generated by discrimination lawsuits but is the right thing to do for the business. Kapitel 1 Was bedeutet Diversity Management? Recruiting and managing a diverse workforce can have economic benefits for business as employees from diverse backgrounds can bring new perspectives and ideas, helping companies to reach new customers and markets. Creating a workplace where diversity is respected can also help employees be more productive, as they feel able to be open about all aspects of their lives or identities with their colleagues and so can be themselves at work. Released on the occasion of the Fourth Equality Summit in Brussels, Belgium on 15-16 November 2010, this short film focuses on four companies in Belgium and Ireland to show how they successfully recruit and manage diverse workforces and the tools and actors available which can provide support.

what is diversity in the Workplace.definition and meanings?? Workplace diversity refers to the variety of differences between people in an organization. That sounds simple, but diversity encompasses race, gender, ethnic group, age, personality, cognitive style, tenure, organizational function, education, background and more Similarities and differences among employees in terms of age, cultural background, physical abilities and disabilities, race, religion, sex, and sexual orientation. Have you ever learned about another culture from someone you met at work? People from all walks of life come together in today's business world. Many companies pride themselves on having a diverse workforce, one that is made up of individuals with a wide range of characteristics and experiences. Some of the key characteristics of workforce diversity include race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, ability, and sexual orientation. A company that embraces diversity can broaden its skill base and become more competitive and innovative. Workforce diversity also brings with it a number of issues and challenges. Issues and Challenges You may know someone who has experienced unfair treatment based on a personal characteristic. Discrimination occurs when someone is denied opportunities on the basis of a personal characteristic that has no bearing on job performance. Discrimination causes great harm and is illegal in most cases. It's natural that tensions will arise among individuals in a diverse workforce, so it's important for employers to have diversity management policies in place. Most large organizations have taken steps to promote diversity awareness and understanding. These diversity initiatives contribute to a positive work environment that is free from discrimination. Let's look at some of the specific issues that arise among the diverse groups in the workforce. Race and Ethnicity - Racial and ethnic minorities may have different perspectives, customs, or approaches to communication in the workplace. These differences can pose challenges for organizations that seek harmonious employee relations. Such challenges can be addressed through appropriate training and education. Gender - Women have long struggled to obtain equal pay for comparable work and to remove the glass ceiling, an invisible barrier that keeps women and other minorities out of the top managerial ranks. Women also face gender discrimination and sexual harassment, i.e. sexual advances or other unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature. Although much progress has been made to prevent such conduct, there is still a need for training and education. Age - Today's diverse workforce reflects generational differences and differing perspectives about the relationship between age and ability or professional worth. While complaints about age discrimination are not as prevalent as complaints about gender and racial discrimination, managers must still promote awareness and understanding of age differences in the workforce. Religion - Religious diversity in the workplace raises freedom of expression issues and can lead to conflicts over employee leave for religious observances. Religious discrimination suits are on the rise, so this is another important area for managerial attention. Workforce diversity is a workforce consisting of a broad mix of workers from different racial and ethnic background of different ages and genders, and of different domestic and national cultures.” 3. “Workforce diversity means that the organizations are becoming more heterogeneous mix of people in terms of gender, age, ethnicity and sexual orientation. https://plus.google.com/u/0/114136832808208486802 https://plus.google.com/u/0/114136832808208486802 https://plus.google.com/u/0/114136832808208486802

SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Diversity training can be defined as any program designed to facilitate positive intergroup interaction, reduce prejudice and discrimination, and generally teach individuals who are different from others how to work together effectively. Diversity training is instruction aimed at helping participants to gain cultural awareness in order to benefit the organization or company. Diversity training is the reality that is facing many human resource management teams – one of the pressing reasons is the growing ethnic and racial diversity in the workplace. While major corporations believe that diversity training and active diversity hiring will assist them in remaining competitive in a global economy, other large organizations (universities and colleges) have been slow to embrace diversity training. Trainers use diversity training as a means to meet many objectives, such as attracting and retaining customers and productive workers; maintaining high employee morale; and/or fostering understanding and harmony between workers. However, a systematic analysis has shown the diversity training is usually counterproductive. Diversity training has been a controversial issue, raising questions about moral considerations and counter-productivity. Observers characterize diversity training in very different ways. Its proponents consider it morally right, because it respects diversity, recognizing the value and contributions of every human being. They also view it as economically sound, because it enables organizations to draw on multiplicities of talents and strengths. According to Hans Bader, its opponents consider it an oppressive ideology and reeducation tactic that actually reduces the ability of organizations to attain their goals. It has been suggested that diversity training reinforces differences between individuals instead of fostering their commonalities, thus helping to further racialize the workplace, creating situations where people "tiptoe" around issues such as how to relate to people of different cultures as opposed to people learning to communicate with and truly understand each other. Programs which established specific responsibility for diversity, such as equal opportunity staff positions or diversity task forces, have proven most effective in general. However, the results also indicate that White females benefit significantly more from diversity training. The benefits for African American females and males were appreciably lower than European American females. Networking and mentoring, which were considered bias mitigating approaches, served African American females the most. African American males were the least likely to benefit from any of the methods. Sue Steiner and collaborators have advocated that controversy be used as a cooperative learning style. They argue that attempting to see both sides of a controversial issue builds empathy and allows working environments to function better. An analysis of data from over 800 firms over 30 years shows that diversity training and grievance procedures backfires and leads to reductions in the diversity of the firms workforce. Other research shows that people "were less likely to take discrimination complaints seriously against companies who had diversity programs." As organizations and communities are becoming more globalized, there is a need for an expansion in relation to communication among individuals from all over the world, operating within a diverse environment. Scholars believe it is beneficial for companies to train a diverse staff, as a reflection of the market in which you wish to serve. According to Jalai Armache, in a heterogeneous workplace environment filled with people knowledgeable of those with different backgrounds and nationalities, there is ability to easily expand an organization.....

Get your free audio book: http://dmon.us/f/b004n85s48 The management of ethnic diversity has become a topical and often controversial subject in recent times, with much debate surrounding multiculturalism as a systematic and comprehensive response for dealing with ethnic diversity. This book engages with these debates, examining the tangible outcomes of multiculturalism as a policy and philosophy in a range of traditional and 'newer' multi-ethnic nations. Exploring the questions of whether multiculturalism can promote 'ethnic harmony', employment equity and trust between various minority and non-minority groups, "managing Ethnic Diversity" also adopts a comparative perspective on the experiences of multiculturalism in various international contexts, in order to examine whether lessons learned from some jurisdictions can be applied to others. With an international team of experts presenting the latest research from the Uk, North America, Europe, China and Australasia, a truly global dialogue is fostered with regard to the utility and limits of multiculturalism in local and comparative contexts. As such, "managing Ethnic Diversity" will appeal to social scientists interested in race and ethnicity, multiculturalism and migration.
